Anya Shyian

Hi! My name is Anya, and I am so excited to return to Green Grove this summer as Assistant Director. Looking forward to meeting campers, building connections, and working hard to create the most memorable and enjoyable experience for our kids.

Currently, I am obtaining my Bachelor of Secondary Education and Inclusive Education certificate at the University of Regina, which means that I love to teach and love learning even more! Whether I’m with my little ones at Sadochok Ukrainian Language Preschool, or creating cultural crafts at UNF Regina’s Ridna Shkola Saturday School- I am always passionate about finding new and interesting ways to plant the seed of Ukrainian culture in all children.

Our rich and beautiful cultural traditions, from baking paskas or making perogies, to annual caroling, and especially singing and Ukrainian dancing, are all so close to my heart. Since our arrival to Canada from Ukraine in 2007, I have been dancing for almost 16 years now, and I can’t wait to share this love with our campers.

In 2023, I was a part of the revival initiative of the Ukrainian National Youth Federation. With almost 25 Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadian youth ages 14-24, my goal was to create a shared space for Ukrainian teens to come together and develop their creativity, love for Ukrainian song and dance and to learn about our heritage together. As president, I am proud of the tremendous strides the organization has taken within this year. In March of 2024, I was honored to receive the UCC Saskatchewan Nation Builders and Community Recognition Award for Youth Achievement for this labor of love.

I first joined the Green Grove team as a counselor in 2022, and I was welcomed with open arms to this family. Now, I’m excited to continue our camp traditions and celebrate Green Grove’s 75th anniversary this year!

Anticipating an amazing camp season ahead- Here’s to creating wonderful memories together at Green Grove Camp this summer!
