Meet our Clergy

We are honored to introduce the clergy of our Green Grove Camp family. For many years, so many of our past and present devoted clergy and their wives have been an integral part of our community, guiding our youth and shaping their understanding of our Ukrainian heritage, culture, history, language, and religion.

The presence of our clergy at Green Grove Camp goes far beyond teaching religion classes. They immerse themselves in every aspect of camp life, from sharing meals with the children and assisting in the kitchen to participating in bonfire sing-alongs and providing emotional support and guidance. Their dedication ensures that our children not only learn about their faith but also feel supported and valued within our community.

Through their interactive lessons, they help our children grasp complex concepts like confession and other religious practices, always being there to listen, talk, and guide. Their influence helps mold our children into future members of our church, and for that, we are forever thankful.

Please join us in expressing our deepest gratitude and appreciation for all clergy past and present, whose unwavering commitment and involvement have made a lasting impact on Green Grove Camp and its participants.

Currently in our Mission District the following clergy have guided and mentored campers, staff, and the Board of Directors, and for this we thank you, Дякую. Please click on their photo to read their bio.

Rt Rev Mitred Archpriest Taras Makowsky
Cathedral Dean of the Ukr Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Trinity Saskatoon since 2001
Priest in Ukr Orthodox Church of St George in Dauphin MB, and Rev deacon in Ukr Orthodox Cathedral of St. John in Edmonton AB.

Attended Tryzub Church Camp Crystal Lake for many years, and also the administrator. Dobr. Joanne was also on staff for the time we lived in Dauphin. Since our time in Saskatoon, we have supported Zeleniy Hai as a chaplain and volunteer.

As a priest, I feel it is very important to engage with the children not only in Religious classes but to listen to their needs and cares. Society is sometimes a challenge.

Very Rev. Archpriest Patrick Powalinsky

With the encouragement of my Godfather, Michael Humeniuk, the first treasurer of Green Grove Camp, I attended camp from 1969 – 1978. Upon assignment to the Saskatoon Mission District, I was camp Chaplain from 2012 -2024 respective years as well upon organization of the Teen Camp program, I was the first Chaplain.

Very Rev Archpriest Peter Wasylenko

“My association with Green Grove Camp began in 1986 when I was hired as the camp director. Lesia Kotelko, current President of Green Grove Camp, was one of my campers.

When ordained a priest in December of 1989, I was one of the Camp Chaplains at Green Grove Camp, from 1990 – 1994, and then a camp chaplain at Tryzub Camp (Crystal Lake) from 1994 – 2007. When I was assigned to All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox church in Saskatoon in 2014 to the current time, I have been one of the camp chaplains, and have served at each Divine Liturgy on the final day of camp. I have enjoyed my time over the years at camp interacting with and teaching the children about our faith. I look forward to this summer’s 75th anniversary of Green Grove camp.”
